About 5 minutes on how Napoleon ended up ruling France, then a short check on what you took from it.

From executed king to crowned emperor

In 1793, the French Revolution executed King Louis XVI. The goal was to end monarchy in France forever and build a republic run by the people. Yet in 1804, just eleven years later, France crowned Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor. The crowd cheered, and a national vote approved the change with over 99 percent support.

How did a nation that used the guillotine to destroy royal authority hand absolute power back to one man? It did not happen through a sudden foreign invasion. It happened legally, step by step, supported by citizens who believed they were saving their freedom.

After six years of revolutionary terror, riots, and economic collapse, what did the French public want most by 1799?
